Interface 2019-present

For my Interface series, I repurpose algorithmic data relating to myself to create unconventional self-portraits. By painting my Instagram "suggested posts" feed and the Google image results from searching my name, I confront the uncanny vulnerability of being seen and interpreted by something as inhuman and mechanical as an algorithm. Although the act of "egosurfing" or searching one's own name in a search engine, is often seen as simply a narcissistic guilty pleasure, I use the much slower process of painting to explore the more complex implications present upon witnessing and pondering the fragmented records of our existence as mediated through technology.
