The initial source imagery for the “Pearl,” series originates from stills from “pearl-popping” videos found through tiktok. Through careful cropping, use of color, and emphasis on suggestive moments of touch and release, I hope to create monumental-yet-small, and repulsive-yet-beguiling compositions that feel ambiguously bodily, and decidedly erotic, in nature. Similar to my use of pimple-popping videos and other“viral” internet imagery in other bodies of work, I am attempting to tease out the sublime in material is part of the “internet mundane.”
